Mtro. Juan Villoro

Escritor y periodista, Juan Villoro nació en la Ciudad de México en 1956. Ha sido profesor en la UNAM, y profesor visitante en las universidades de Yale, Princeton y Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona, así como en la Fundación de Nuevo Periodismo, creada por Gabriel García Márquez. Es columnista de Reforma  (México) y El Mercurio (Chile) y fue director de La Jornada Semanal.

Estudió Sociología en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa. Es doctor honoris causa por la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo y por la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. Desde 2014 es miembro de El Colegio Nacional.

En 2012 obtuvo el Premio Iberoamericano José Donoso y en 2018 el Premio Manuel Rojas, ambos otorgados en Chile por el conjunto de su obra. Entre los reconocimientos que ha recibido en México se encuentra el Mazatlán por su libro de ensayos literarios Efectos personales y el Xavier Villaurrutia por su libro de cuentos La casa pierde.

 Recibió en España el Premio Herralde por su novela El testigo; en Argentina el Premio ACE por su obra de teatro Filosofía de vida y en Cuba el Premio José María Arguedas por su novela Arrecife. Su periodismo ha sido reconocido con los premios Rey de España, Ciudad de Barcelona, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán y el Homenaje Fernando Benítez de la Feria Internacional del Libro.

Su novela para jóvenes El libro salvaje ha vendido más de un millón de ejemplares.

Su libro más reciente es El vértigo horizontal. Una ciudad llamada México.

Su obra se ha traducido a numerosos idiomas.
